A joint initiative of Equal Justice Works and Gideon’s Promise (formerly The Southern Public Defender Training Center), the Public Defender Corps program was a highly-competitive, government-sponsored, national public defender fellowship program that provided support to new lawyers interested in public defense careers. This support included sponsored participation in Gideon’s Promise Core “101″ Program. Unfortunately, the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance, has decided to discontinue funding for this initiative.
